SomaFM Radio Player App Reviews

I like the interface very much, but I noticed that my iTunes stream of soma.fm is noticeably higher quality than the SomaFM Player, so Ive switched back to iTunes.

I listen to SomaFM all the time, and mostly use the iPhone version of this app. The Mac version really needs to be about half as big as its current size - its not photoshop, its a radio player. Other than this cosmetic issue, its great.

Adding play/pause button support would bring this up to 5 stars for me. It would be nice to be able to use play/pause as a quick mute/un-mute function for the stream.

Feature request…media key support :) Love it thanks! You should charge $ .50 for it or something…I wouldve paid it.

Ive been a supporter of SomaFM for years now. Listen to their stations, donate to keep the station afloat and have the app on every one of my devices. Theres one very small thing that bothers me about the app that I doubt can really be fixed. The "pause" button isnt a pause at all. When you push the pause button to get up and go do something, the stream is not paused. This should basically be called a "mute" button, because thats all it really does. Since the stations are a live stream, you cant really pause the flow of the stream, so it just keeps going. So if you gotta get up to go do something and would like to come back and pick up right where you left off, you cant. Other than that, I absolutely give this app (on any platform) 5 stars. Great to have all the awesome SomaFM stations at your fingertips. I’ll continue to use iTunes though, since it supports Airplay (including multiple Airplay destinations) and remote control through iPhone.

Soma has been bringing it for a long time now. They will always have something great to listen to. Xmas in Frisko may very well be the greatest station in the world. I look forward to it every single year. I now have soma fm and just about every device I own. Life is good. My donation is in the mail. Thank you for being awesome.

Great, stable desktop app to access the SomaFM channels. Works well with Airplay to send out to stereo speakers. Get it!

I’ve used this app for some time on my ’08 MBP to great success. The streams come in good and clear, and the choice is pretty varied. However, it appears that with my upgrade to Yosemite, the SomaFM app has been tearing through my system memory. I’m not sure if this is a fault of Yosemite, the app, or that I need to simply uninstall and reinstall. It does seem to be an issue that isn’t isolated to this program.

I have been a Soma listener and on-and-off (my apologies, Soma) subscriber for years. Having this app on my Mac (and also iOS!) has nearly invalidated my Spotify account. If you are a fan of ad-free radio with excellent curation, you can’t go wrong for the price. Support the little guy! Long live Soma - you make my work days better.

The superb radio station, phenomenal interface is glitched in latest version when running on osx 10.10 on a recent mb pro. It seems not to be releasing memory, the ram utilization gets to 99% over 45minutes or so and application stops. Need to either close app and restart and/or run some memory manager every 20min to release the buffer space back to OS. Can someone please look into it? This is my favourite app.

A clean and simple program for accessing SomaFM stations. You can tag your favorite songs and channels, and adjust volume. There are three bandwidth settings (auto, high, and low), but it doesnt tell you the exact bit rate of the stream, which I hope they include in a future update. The best feature is that this app still works on Snow Leopard! Thank you!

Been a listener for several years and soma fm never lets me down. You’ll find music here that you just don’t discover on spotify or apple music. By far my favorite radio app.

I have to edit my previous review where I complained about the new SomaFM notifications. I figured out how to disable them (under system settings, notifications!). All good now, 5 stars!

Please bring back the icons to the Soma FM desktop app! It’s really annoying to have to read the names of all of the stations before I can choose the one that I want to select. In the past I would just scan the unique icons for each station to quickly pick the one that I wanted. Other than that, I love what this service has done for my work life, stuck in a cubicle all day :)
